Dear Students,
Welcome to your new self-contained classroom! My name is Miss. Lasher, and I will be your teacher this year at Bath Middle School in room 106. I am so excited that you will be in my class this year and I can't wait to meet you and start our year together! I know you are going to love this new chapter of your education.
About Me
I live in the district with my boyfriend Andrew and we have a year old puppy named Dexter as well as farm animals such as cows, chickens and pigs on our small farm. We love to play outside, go on trips and spend time together. I also enjoy reading, farming, crafts and cooking.

Our Classroom
Our classroom is a very busy place to learn. I will need yours as well as your family’s help throughout the school year.
Our classroom environment is structured by a variety of hands-on learning activities, games and learning centers.
In order for me to teach to the needs of every student, I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire which can be found on my website and will also be sent home with the student the first week of school.
Classroom Behavior Plan
As a teacher, it is my goal to provide a safe learning environment for each and every student. I aspire for students to view my class as a stress-free place to learn. I do not want students coming to my class worrying about grades or tests, I want them to come ready, willing, and enthusiastic to learn. I will often incorporate project-based learning in place of paper and pencil tests and will utilize various forms of formative assessment to ensure my students are on track and learning to their potential.
I have four set RULES in my classroom in the interest of your learning and safety:
1. Be respectful for people and their belongings
2. Be Courteous
3. Be Safe
4. Follow the directions of the teacher in the classroom
If there are rules that you would like to add or have an issue with one or more of the rules above, I would be more than happy to collaborate with you as you will see in the upcoming academic year.
Communication
Communication is essential and I will be sending home a monthly newsletter about what we are doing in school. You can also visit our class website for weekly updates, pictures, helpful resources and see everything that we are doing.
Please feel free to contact me at school through a note (fastened in the binder), by email, or call me at school or on my cell phone. I welcome your thoughts and am looking forward to working together to make for a successful year!
Homework
Each week students will bring home a "homework folder" which they will have activities to complete. Each month a reading journal will be sent home as well as a math journal.
Snack
Students are welcome to bring a snack in every Friday. Please send in a healthy snack such as fruit, goldfish crackers, pretzels etc. Please refrain from sending in chips, cookies or candy. Before doing this however, I will need to get information on food allergies from the nurse. I will contact you and your parents when “Food Friday’s” begins.
You may however, bring in a water bottle each day and will be allowed to keep it at their desk to drink throughout the day.

For students and parents of the students, it is important for them to get the feel that you as their new teacher care about them. In order to do this, you have to be able to connect in their own personal ways. In this welcome letter, I did just this. I first introduced the students to the class. I told the student what kind of class they will be in as well as where it is located inside the school. I then grabbed their attention with information about me, telling them where I live, what my family is like and what my hobbies are.
After describing me, I then described the atmosphere of my classroom and what our classroom will be used for. I grabbed the students attention again by asking the students for their help in making the environment for effective learning. The student may not know how to create such an environment so I went into detail with this in the next two topics. I discussed rules and classroom behavior plans.
To get the students rolling on how the class operates, I emphasized communication. As a teacher, it is essential that communication is happening amongst all (teachers, parents and students). We will never be able to create an effective learning environment if we do not communicate what is going on inside and outside of the classroom. Along with communication, I then went into detail about how homework works in my class as well as other events such as snack time. It is important for students to know how things work before the class begins so that way students can process this before putting it into action.
To end my Welcome Letter, I then made a list of supplies that each student should bring to the class during the first week of classes. I thought this would be essential for the parents to know well before school to give them time to prepare.
Lastly, I left a quote at the bottom of my page along with my contact information. The quote was just another way in which students can connect. My contact information is essential so that parents or students can contact me well before school starts if they have any questions or concerns.
